A vegetable garden is an ideal place to start cooking up a healthy fall soup, and if you’re a fan of pickles, there’s a good chance you can get your hands on the recipe.

But before you dive in, read on for the basics of how to prepare a pickle, as well as tips for preparing an authentic homemade pickle.
Prepare a fresh, chilled, ground, whole pickle 2.
Wash your pickles well and rinse them well 3.
Remove the seeds, skin and flesh from the pickles 4.
Use your knife to slice them in half or in pieces, and discard the outer skin and seed 5.
Mix the pickle ingredients well to make a paste 6.
Place the paste into a small bowl 7.
Add salt, pepper and garlic to taste 8.
Place a lid on the jar and leave it in the fridge until ready to use it 9.
Serve your pickle on a bed of fresh, sliced strawberries, or on a side dish with a drizzle of vinegar 10.
Serve with fresh herbs or a sprinkle of chopped parsley 11.
